CLEARING the CACHE FILE - Netscape
Try these remedies with the cache file with your PC.
- The cache is used to keep local copies of frequently accessed
documents on your PC and, thus, reduces time connected to the
network through your ISP. If you want to be assured that you are
viewing the most current version of a webpage, hit the "reload"
button which will compare the cache document to the website and
show the most current version of that page. It is suggested, that
you purge your cache file from time to time to assure you are getting
the most current version of a webpage, however.
- Purging your cache file varies dependent upon your browser. The
instructions on this page refer to Netscape, Netscape Communicator,
and Microsoft Internet Explorer. If these instructions do not apply
to your browser, contact your ISP for specific instructions.
Netscape and

- From your Netscape Communicator Taskbar, select EDIT.
- Then, choose "PREFERENCES."
- A "Category" menu will appear on the
left side of your screen. From this menu, select ADVANCED.
- Next, from the ADVANCED selection, choose CACHE.
- A cache file will open to the right of the Category
menu on your screen. Click the CLEAR MEMORY CACHE button.
Click the CLEAR DISK CACHE button.
- Just below the CLEAR buttons, you will see "Document in cache is
compared to document on network:" with three choices. The choices are
"once per session," "everytime," and "never." We suggest that you choose
"everytime." Move down and click OK. And, you're all set!
- Again, you may want to want to perform this task every week or so
dependent upon how much you are on the web.
